The House
In the main part of the house we have a good sized kitchen/dining room with a wood-burning oven, and a separate utility room on the ground floor plus a wine-making room (out of bounds!) where we attempt to make our own plain wine from our grapes of long but dubious heritage. On the first floor is the main sitting room with a wood-burning stove, a balcony, a large TV, blu-ray player etc. The sofa opens up to a bed for unexpected visitors. There is a little cloakroom in the lobby outside of which is an old wooden grain storage chest. Also on the first floor, with its own door to the exterior, is "The Apartment". There are double and twin bedrooms plus a bathroom and a kitchen/diner/living room with TV. It comes in useful when two families holiday together, or if used so that children or teenagers can enjoy a degree of independence. Above, on the second floor, a cavernous double bedroom with a wood-burner and TV, a splendid bathroom and a study/dressing room with an additional sofa bed.
We have tried to restore the house as simply as possible, whilst making it as comfortable and up-to-date as necessary. There is underfloor heating on the ground floor, central heating with radiators elsewhere. Solar panels provide sufficient hot water in summer and the wood-burning stoves are a comfort in winter. We have an internet connection and wi-fi throughout the house (though the thick walls create blind spots), and it extends to the pool outside. There is a good library of books - light reading - some parlour games and a few DVD's in English and Italian. We hope you have better things to do on your holiday, but, if you need them, there are washing and ironing facilities in the utility room downstairs.
There is a highchair, bed guards that you can fit on one of the single beds, a stair guard and a cot available if required. These items need to be requested when booking. We repeat our advice to keep toddlers well supervised outside on the land and in the pool. We regret that the house is not really suitable for wheelchair users.
